Gender Balance in Financial Education

the project

The project aims to reduce the gender gap in financial education, with a specific focus on women facing disadvantages or specific challenges. Through financial education programs and support, it aims to provide them with the necessary skills to independently manage their financial resources. Additionally, it recognizes the importance of addressing the broader issue of domestic violence, often rooted in the lack of financial control within family dynamics. Therefore, the project seeks to contribute not only to increased financial literacy but also to a safer and fairer environment within families.

  • Aims to reduce the gender gap in financial education, focusing on women facing disadvantages.
  • Addresses issues of financial control within family dynamics and domestic violence.

the target

  • Women who, regardless of age, work in professions or occupations in economic sectors characterized by a pronounced gender employment gap and have been without regular paid employment for at least six months.
  • Women suffering from addictions (drugs, alcohol, and gambling etc.).
  • Not included women (e.g. immigrant women not yet integrated into the community, single mothers).
  • Women with a low educational profile who are not working or work in precarious working contexts.

The target group perfectly reflects the inclusion and re-skilling objectives of the project, which presents complex personal situations such as, for example, widows or young women wishing to embark on a path independent of the family.

Approximately 40 disadvantaged women from each country are expected to be involved in answering the questionnaires, and a minimum of 50 women in the virtual training offered by the basic financial education course

👉 The event, coordinated and organised by OpenCom, took place as part of a lecture by Professor Claudio Melacarne, who teaches General Pedagogy at the Department of Education, Human Sciences and Intercultural Communication (DIPOSC).

The session turned the university classroom into a lively forum for dialogue between researchers, educators, institutions, the banking sector and local associations, with over 150 students attending on-site and online.

The discussion, moderated by Andrea Repek (Inedita), featured contributions from Marco Morbidelli (Fondazione Arezzo Innovazione), Erina Guraziu (OpenCom), Ursula Armstrong (Pronto Donna), Mirco Romoli (Banca Tema) and Gabriella Salvietti, a former Lebole worker, who shared reflections and experiences on how financial education can become a true driver of inclusion and gender equality. 🌍💪
